Welcome to Sunflower Learning, a non-profit organization founded by parents of Montgomery, Hillsborough, and Princeton school districts. In 2013, Sunflower began with its first class of 16 students in our After-School Chinese Immersion Program. This year Sunflower has grown to enroll almost 70 students.
Each day from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM, students from Kindergarten through the 6th grade enjoy grade-specific Mandarin Chinese immersion language learning and education on Chinese culture and values.
While Sunflower students learn a vital and relevant language in today's global economy, understanding Chinese culture and language also bridges the gap with their Chinese relatives. Sunflower also provides math-enrichment classes and Lego Robotic classes to the appropriate age children. We hope that through those programs we can help students to improve their math skills, teamwork, and innovation.
Furthermore, Sunflower exemplifies studies showing that bilingual early learning positively impacts academic performance. Sunflower students attending day school at Lower Middle School demonstrate over 100% pass rates annually on State English and Math scores.
Sunflower After-School has brought After-School time to new levels of excellence for its students.
Starting September 2017, Sunflower will be opening the Chinese after school program at Princeton Charter School. The students of the program will be offered a coherent sequence of Mandarin Chinese classes from Kindergarten to 6th grade level in mastering basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. While our curriculum is designed to be academic-oriented with a specific goal for each grade level, our classes are conducted under a relaxed and social setting where the students learn Chinese through games, songs and other activities. Our after school program is open to all the students who are interested in learning Chinese. The program has two classes per week and each class is one hour in duration.
